Your character's name (last, first): Luffy, Monkey D.
Series your character's from: One Piece
Background info on your character: Ever since he was little, it had always been Luffy’s dream to sail the seas as a fearsome pirate. When he was seven, a pirate crew led by “Red-Hair Shanks” arrived in his town, and Luffy befriended Shanks. This was the start of his pirate obsession. But no matter how many times Luffy begged to join the crew, Shanks always refused. Luffy even stabbed himself under his left eye to show how fearless he is—Shanks still said no. One day Luffy ate a Devil Fruit by accident, which was the Gomu Gomu Fruit. Since then, he has been able to stretch, inflate, and bounce as if he were made of rubber—but as consequence of eating the fruit, he cannot swim anymore. Should he get in water, his body will just sink. Just when all hope seems lost for Luffy’s dream, he was taken hostage by a bandit, but was saved by Shanks (who in turn had his arm bitten off by a giant fish during the incident). Seeing how great Shanks truly was, Luffy vows that not only will he become a pirate, but be the greatest of them all: the Pirate King. Before leaving, Shanks gives Luffy his straw hat, telling him to return it to him when he becomes a great pirate. This hat is Luffy’s most prized possession and would rather die before losing it (at one point it got damaged, which enraged him like no other).
10 years later, Luffy leaves his hometown to start his journey as a pirate. Along the way he meets up with “Pirate Hunter” Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Tony Tony Chopper, Nico Robin, and Franky, and all become the “Straw Hat” Pirate Crew. Their goal—to find the treasure “One Piece,” left behind in the Grand Line by the former Pirate King, Gol D. Roger.
Luffy is naturally light-hearted and adventurous, and can sometimes come off as stupid. He will often believe what people tell him at first (an example of this was when Usopp had left the crew and returned under the name “Sogeking,” Luffy actually believed what Usopp told him and did not see that it was him at first). Even if it is something small, Luffy will take great interest in something if he thinks it’s cool. He likes to have a lot of fun along the way, especially with his friends. He loves his friends so much that he will risk his life for them no questions asked. Like a lot of typical anime heroes nowadays, Luffy has an insatiable appetite, always begging Sanji to give him more food all the time (his favorite food of all being meat). And although Luffy has battled many villains along the way, he has never killed any of them, probably because he’s such a nice guy. Instead he beats them to a pulp and leaves them there, and most of the time the Navy captures them and takes care of it from there. The bounty on his head is currently 300,000,000 Beli (and he gets excited whenever he sees it go up), and rather than fighting he will usually run away from the Marines should they see him (though he’s smiling and laughing while doing so, whereas everyone else is freaking out and running for their lives). He had recently declared war on the World Government after seeing what they had done to Nico Robin.
Luffy’s powers come from the Gomu Gomu Fruit, and his attack names are always Gomu Gomu no (insert attack name here). He can stretch himself to either punch someone from far away or to grab onto something. He can inflate his body like a balloon to bounce things off him, such as cannon balls. Naturally swords and guns have no effect on Luffy at all, as they just bounce right off him. He refers to his power levels as “Gears” and can activate each Gear by forcibly pumping more blood into his muscles. This is what makes him more powerful each time. However, after Gear Three, his body literally shrinks to a chibi-size and he remains that way for however long he was in Gear Three, usually a few minutes. But his weakness is drowning.
There is only one fear that he has, and that is his grandfather, Vice-Admiral Monkey D. Garp. His grandfather had always wanted Luffy to be a strong man in the Marines, and had done over the top things to him to help toughen him up, such as pushing him off cliffs and throwing him in jungles at night. These insane acts made Luffy scared to death of him, although not once has his dream to be a pirate ever changed. He’s so scared of him that he will not even remotely try to fight him.
I plan on pulling him after the Enies Lobby arc. He had just saved Nico Robin from the Navy, declared war on the World Government, met up with his grandfather, and set sail for the next stop towards One Piece.
What they were doing when they got pulled to the island?: Luffy was on his ship, on route to the next stop. He will wake up on the Island thinking that they have arrived at their destination, and that he somehow got separated from his crew.
Relations with anyone else on the island?: Fullbody, Iceburg, and anyone else from One Piece who might join later on.
